Why are People so Scared of the Future?
Last week, I read "a Cloudy Crystal Ball" which is one section from the article "Top 6 fears about future technology" by Kevin Dickinson. The part I read was focused on how people try to predict the future as a way to feel secure. Not knowing how technology will develop makes people scared of the unknown. (Dickenson) while there are people on both sides of this argument, unless you are interested and knowledgeable of technology personally, it is probably easier to see the bad sides of advancing technology.

I found it interesting people ignore the main reason most technology keeps developing, which is that our world is always changing and technology is a way to solve new problems that occur. Technology helps in many ways both big and small daily. From letting people communicate far away from each other to incredible advances in the medical field technology is always changing, and usually for the better.
The Good and Bad
I agree with the idea that advancing technology is a positive thing because I think technology has led to countless solutions in almost every field. one piece of evidence supporting my view from "TheDrum.com" by Ian Macarthur, states that while there are people on both sides of the argument, "that technology does marginally more good than it does bad." (Macarthur) I liked this quote and found it supported my idea because it shows how technology can be good for society instead of bad. Another piece of evidence to support my view on technology is from "seventablets.com" by Danielle Sullivan. This article starts by listing the negative side effects of technology such as cybersecurity risks and effecting mentl health. The article then lists the positives of technology listing everything you can now do thanks to advanced technology. (Sullivan) This article also put an emphasis on how technology has been useful during the Coronavirus Pandemic in many ways.

Why is This Important?
I have always partly agreed with the idea that advancing technology too much is unnecessary and could lead to dangerous advancements or a rise in unemployment. I find this issue important because there is a big debate on it. After reading "A Cloudy Crystal Ball", I have formed a new view on technology and what it does for us.

Advancing technology is a subject where like most things it won't be able to please everybody there will always be a two sided argument. But on the flip side of that everyone uses technology everyday and without most of it we couldn't go about our daily lives anymore. I think this was well written and I liked the part about how people want to know the future because they have a fear of the unknown.

DeleteI definitely agree with the idea that technology should not be advanced too fast or it may be dangerous. Although, I also think that no matter what, people are gonna create dangerous technology so we should always expect that.
